This week, in a move that will make many anti-Trumpers happy, the former Governor of Massachusetts and the Libertarian Party’s 2016 Vice-Presidential candidate, Bill Weld has announced his candidacy for the 2020 Republican presidential nomination.

Let’s take a look at the announcement video from the weld2020.org website.

WATCH BILL WELD’S CAMPAIGN VIDEO HERE

The video effectively lays out Bill Weld’s history in government, then transitions to re-litigating the 2016 election of Donald Trump, as if no one knows about the grabbing women comment.

We do know from the past that he supports the national legalization of cannabis, is pro-choice on abortion, supports LGBTQ rights, is fiscally conservative, and supports school choice. But, Weld’s campaign website provides no information on the issues he is running on.

I don’t believe Bill Weld is a serious candidate and that he is running as a spoiler, which will excite Democrats and the anti-Trump.

I don’t even think Weld thinks he can win the GOP nomination. In my opinion, he believes an intra-party challenge will damage Trump enough that the Democrat, who ever that will be, will win… much like Ted Kennedy damaged Jimmy Carter in 1980.

All that said, I don’t think this is going very far. The media will love Bill Weld for a few weeks, but he is not going to make it to the primaries.
